Bamboo Topcoat Caramel, a high-quality water-based varnish, has been specially developed to protect our light caramel-colored bamboo panels and give them a beautiful, deep caramel color. Bamboo furniture, walls, interior doors, kitchen countertops, stair treads, paneling or flooring - Bamboo Topcoat Caramel provides optimal protection and enhances the natural look.
With its fast-drying, low-odor formula, Bamboo Topcoat Caramel is easy to apply and provides a clean, smooth finish. The varnish imparts a natural caramel color and preserves the original appearance of the bamboo sheet material and products. In addition, the light satin sheen provides a luxurious finish.
Bamboo Topcoat Caramel's excellent resistance to moisture and dirt ensures a long-lasting result. It also provides optimal protection against wear, stains and discoloration. In addition, this varnish contains no harmful or flammable solvents, so it is completely safe for both the processor and the end user.
2. Do not thin the Bamboo Topcoat Caramel, as this may disturb the exact balance of the ingredients. Do not use a foam roller (this can cause air bubbles), but choose a high quality mohair roller, felt roller or long haired brush to apply the varnish. Use only tools with stainless steel or plastic parts. Clean the tools thoroughly with water before the product dries on the tools.
3. Spread Bamboo Topcoat Caramel evenly in strips or sections on the bamboo surface, avoiding differences in layer thickness. It is important to apply Bamboo Topcoat Caramel in a rich coat (about 8 m² per liter for the first coat, 10-12 m² per liter for the second coat). A saturated application provides better wetting, optimal flow and prevents rapid drying, allowing more time to roll out the paint evenly and create wet-on-wet bonds. Three coats are required for a fully protective paint system.
DRYING TIME Drying times are valid at a temperature of 20°C, a humidity of 65%, the indicated consumption and adequate ventilation. Lower temperatures and/or higher humidity may significantly slow down the drying time. Always wait until the previous coat is sufficiently dry before applying the next coat to avoid defects. Do not cover a fresh coat with foil, stucco, carpets or other coverings for the first two weeks and only dry clean the surface during this time.
Bamboo Topcoat Caramel is dust-dry after approx. 15 minutes, tack-free after approx. 30 minutes, thumb-proof after approx. 1 hour and recoatable after approx. 16 hours.
Do not apply Bamboo Topcoat Caramel at temperatures below 10°C, above 30°C and/or at a relative humidity of more than 85%. Ensure that the substrate temperature is at least 3°C above the dew point. If possible, shield from direct sunlight. Ensure sufficient ventilation to remove water vapor during the drying process.

With photosynthesis, bamboo extracts CO2 from the air and releases oxygen. Bamboo produces about 40% more oxygen than wood and absorbs up to 35% more CO2 than wood. That makes bamboo better for CO2 offsetting than wood.
Bamboo & Environment
The use of bamboo greatly reduces the greenhouse effect and climate change. Bamboo absorbs greenhouse gases and releases 35% more oxygen into the atmosphere than an equivalent species of hardwood. This is due to its high growth rate and photosynthesis. Climate change has been an issue for several years, which is why bamboo could be included as a certified hardwood. Bamboo is also suitable for biomass production because it gives the second highest biomass on earth.
Bamboo & Cracks
A natural characteristic of bamboo is that cracks may appear vertically, this cannot be prevented. These are caused by differences in climate and humidity.
If you treat the bamboo poles with an oil or lacquer, the number of cracks will be less than if you do not apply a protective layer. But unfortunately this cannot be prevented 100%. The cracks can expand and shrink depending on the climate.
Protect the forest: build with bamboo
Every year more than 13 million hectares of forest are cut down. That's 1140 soccer fields every hour. Of course forests are planted, but the annual net loss of forest is over 7 million hectares, which is more than twice the area of Belgium. If those forests were not cut down, up to a quarter less CO2 would be released into the air.
