This year Holland Dahlia Event teamed up with Clusius College Alkmaar to give the graduating students of the Flowers & Design program a place in the parade at Keukenhof Castle. This year's theme was "Wedding Fairytale." So Lucas Veuger (19) and Lucas Beentjes (18) were also asked to come up with something on this theme.
They quickly came up with the idea of building a swing, but didn't want to choose a standard design. That's how they came up with our bamboo swing. There was no bamboo available at the school, but of course we at Bamboo Import were happy to help. In advance, the bamboo poles were cut and a frame was made by the school. This allowed them to set up the object quickly and easily on the set-up days. Of course, care had to be taken to ensure that it was safe to sit on. The two students solved this by making a large flower arrangement on the seat. The swing was secured to the ground for safety. It was completed with horizontal flower boxes, dreamy curtains and manila rope. The name of this ornate swing is, appropriately, "Flying High."
The Holland Dahlia event took place from September 1-3.
