Bamboo stick Guadua

The South American Guadua bamboo cane is available in diameters of 5 to 15 cm and up to 6 m in length. The bamboo species Guadua angustifolia or "Guadua Bamboo", is known as the strongest bamboo species in the world with an extraordinarily high load-bearing capacity and a tensile strength that exceeds that of mild steel. These unique mechanical properties make Guadua bamboo poles the undisputed number one choice of innovative architects and engineers specialising in the green and sustainable construction of all kinds of structures around the world.

More information about the properties of Guadua bamboo and how the poles can be used can be found in the description of each product. If you have any questions or would like a customised quote, please do not hesitate to contact us. Of course you are always welcome to pick out the bamboo poles and take them away directly. Container orders for large projects can be delivered directly from our factory in South America.

Working with our Bamboo Stick Guadua

  1. Bamboo canes can be connected in many different ways. Most techniques involve the use of rope and/or threaded rods, but more advanced methods such as the fish-bill connection or mortise and tenon connection are also possible.
  2. If you want to use screws to mount bamboo poles, it is best to pre-drill them to avoid cracks.
  3. Cutting bamboo is best done with a Japanese saw. This special bamboo saw has hybrid teeth for easy, quick and precise cross-cutting and mitre cuts.
  4. If you want to place bamboo canes in the ground, we advise to apply Bamboo Soil Protector to the part that will be placed in the ground. This special black coating preserves the bamboo and protects against wood rot.

  1. The diameter of each bamboo pole varies. Our indicated dimensions are always measured at the base (i.e. the thickest side of the bamboo pole). If you require precise measurements to the millimetre, we advise you to come and inspect the posts yourself in our warehouse.
  2. A natural characteristic of bamboo stems is that they are thicker at the base than at the top. The gradient of the bamboo poles depends on the bamboo species and the length of the pole. The gradient of Guadua bamboo is minimal, about a 10-15% over a length of 3 metres.
  3. Bamboo is a natural product, therefore bamboo poles are never 100% straight.
  4. Each bamboo pole is unique, so colour differences are possible.
  5. Guadua bamboo poles sometimes have black spots. These are completely normal for Guadua tribes growing at high altitudes, and are also a characteristic of extremely hard Guadua due to their high silica content.
  6. Vertical cracks can/will appear in bamboo poles, especially in outdoor use. Like wood, bamboo expands or shrinks with changes in temperature or humidity. However, cracks do not affect the structural integrity of the bamboo.
  7. When used outdoors, bamboo will start to grey. We therefore advise to treat bamboo poles with Bamboo Protector, a specially developed UV-resistant stain that slows down the ageing process and thus increases the durability of the bamboo.
