1000 Bamboo products

Which products are made from bamboo? Customers often ask us about the different uses of bamboo, but the better question would be: What can't be made from bamboo? Or as the old Asian proverb says:

" A man is born in a bamboo cradle and is buried in a bamboo coffin, everything in between is possible with bamboo! "

It must be said, almost everything can be made from bamboo, from medicines to biofuel and from edible bamboo shoots and clothing to building material, it all exists.

The versatile grass has been used since time immemorial, but many modern applications have been added in the last 15 years. The demand for solid bamboo plates and beams, composite, veneer and especially flooring is increasing worldwide because bamboo is an exceptionally durable, strong and beautiful material. In addition, bamboo also grows much faster than ordinary trees. The trunks are already felled at the age of 4-5 years, compared to 15-25 years for ordinary trees.

This short film commissioned by INBAR for the World Expo in Shanghai shows the many uses for bamboo, including surfboards, bicycles, building materials, etc.

The challenge we face today is to further improve and innovate the use of bamboo. Because bamboo is the fastest growing plant on earth and because it is a sustainable building material, it can easily replace all existing wood applications without having to cut down entire bamboo forests or plantations. Even better, bamboo continues to grow after harvest without having to be replanted. Bamboo also converts about 35% more CO2 into oxygen than regular trees .

The bamboo products we see on the market today are just the tip of the iceberg. We predict that more and more innovative bamboo applications will reach consumer markets at a rapid pace. That is why it is an exciting time to live in if you are also convinced of how bamboo can contribute to a greener and cleaner environment. We cannot change our consumption-based economy, but we can improve the resources we use and the way we produce our products.

Below is a list of common uses for bamboo. However, keep in mind that not all bamboo species are suitable for every application. Some species are edible (most are not), while other bamboo species are used as structural wood, for decorative applications or pulp. Each bamboo species therefore has its own specific properties and applications.
